HOOGERDIJK, Hermina (Mina)

1934 – 2022
Mrs. Hermina (Mina) Hoogerdijk, beloved wife of Mr. Cornelis Hoogerdijk, passed away at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge, Alberta on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the age of 87 years.
Mina was born October 8, 1934 in Hardenberg, Holland as one of 12 children. She immigrated to Canada in 1955. She and Cornelis were married on March 21, 1958.
Besides her loving husband Cornelis Hoogerdijk, she is survived by five children, Margaret (Ed Tams), John (Margaret), Ron (Tamara), Ed (Alice) and Willy (Trish).
Her much-loved son Bernie passed on to Heavenly glory on August 15, 2016. She will be dearly missed by her eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was known as Mina, Oma, Mookie, and Minty to many. She was funny and didn’t even know it. God gifted her with a character that was good-hearted, gentle, kind, thoughtful, and loving. Her physical health waned significantly in recent years. She sustained a life-long battle with depression and anxiety. But with all those burdens she was more concerned about the well-being of others.
She walked through this life with a child-like faith like no other. She never doubted her destination. She finished her race graciously, Heaven’s doors opened wide, and Jesus welcomed her home. Our beloved mother and Oma is free from the cares and worries of this world; for there is no more sorrow, no more pain, and no more worries in Heaven.
The grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss her peppermints, that often tasted like perfume. They’ll miss the Rolaids and Vitamin C she passed off as candies. They’ll always remember the quick clean of the face with the lick of her thumb. They’ll miss her voice and curiosity. But most of all she’ll be missed for her love. A love that was patient and kind. A love that did not boast. A love that was not proud. A love that was not self-seeking, easily angered, or kept a record of wrongs. A love that protected, trusted, hoped, and persevered. A love that never failed. (1 Corinthians 13).
Dearest Wife, Mom, Oma, and Great-Oma, you finished your race! We’ll miss your beautiful presence in our lives but knowing you are now at home with your Lord and Saviour is our comfort and joy!
“The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?”
(Psalm 27:1)
