1937 – 2022
We are sad to share the news that Neil Jones, our beloved husband, father, grandfather & great- grandfather, passed away in the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 5th, at the age of 84 years.
Neil was born in Taber on July 5th, 1937 to Albert & Edna Jones & was raised in Grassy Lake. He helped his parents in the Grassy Lake General Store & then went farming with his Uncle Harold. He married Patricia Kirkvold on May 10th, 1958 & they were blessed with two children, Kari & Brad. They farmed in the Grassy Lake area for several years with Brad & his wife & were fortunate enough to retire & enjoy many years as snow-birds, enjoying many winters in Yuma, golfing & socializing with a great group of friends.
When the family farm was sold in 2007, Neil & Pat moved to Lethbridge, then to Coaldale to be near their son & daughter-in-law. In the fall of 2021, they moved to the Seasons in West Lethbridge.
Neil is survived by his loving wife, Pat, of almost 64 years, his daughter Kari (Tim) Donnelly & son Brad (Joan-Marie) Jones. He was deeply loved by his six grandchildren & their families – Kristel Donnelly & her son Jackson; Tyler (Robyn) Jones & children Aiden & Emma; Mark (Desiree) Donnelly & children Lochlan & Amaya; Vaughn (Dear) Jones; Devin (Maddy) Donnelly; & Mackenzie (Jan) Tamminga & children Riley, Levi & Isabelle. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathleen (Leonard) Sanderson & Daisy Kinniburgh & their families; brother-in-law Bill (Donna) Kirkvold & sister-in-law Lynn Real.
His grand-daughter said it best: “You were the best grandpa a girl could ask for. I’m going to miss your quiet, generous, huge heart. It wasn’t until I thought about all our memories & time we spent together that I realized how much you shaped who I am. I always thought I was a nurse because I loved helping you & Dad with calving & the cows’ babies, but it wasn’t until this week I realized it’s because you taught me how to take care of people. The best parts of me are because of you. I’ll miss watching you fix anything that’s broken. But the world’s heavy & I know you’ll be able to make it better from heaven. I hope you are enjoying a round of golf & a beer with your buddies up there. You were the best & always will be. Thank you for everything, Grandpa. I promise to carry a piece of your heart wherever I go. I love you. Pippi”
In honor of Neil’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. The family will celebrate his life together in the spring or summer. Those who wish to participate can contact Brad at 403-380-0358 & we will be happy to include you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Alzheimer’s Society 1202 2 Ave S #40, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0E3.
