Dr. Peter Maclean

1953 – 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing on March 22,2022 of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Peter MacLean.

Peter was born and raised in Lethbridge where he attended school. After graduating from LCI he moved to Edmonton to study dentistry. Peter graduated from dentistry in 1978 and established a very successful business in Coaldale until his retirement in 2015.

Peter married Paddy Richardson in 1984 and together they raised 3 children, Emily Ian and Davis. He was such a proud father and grandfather.

After retirement Peter was able to pursue his many and varied interests. His most important mission was being a wonderful father and grandfather. He always wanted to give his kids as many life experiences as possible. He took them on numerous trips, Europe, camping, skiing, golfing, fishing, boating and introduced them to the finest gas station food every chance he got. Peter loved being a grandfather. He made sure he spent as much time as possible with the grandchildren, Oliver, Evelyn and Ozzie. There were zoo trips, ski trips, sleepovers and constant play and joking. And there were “Incidents”. Peter was gleeful on the occasion of an incident.

Peter was so lucky to enjoy many fishing trips to the Pacific Coast with his dad Laurie and his father-in-law Ted Richardson as well as his sons Ian and Davis and numerous friends. They were epic expeditions that always resulted in enough fish for the whole family for at least a year.

Peter loved his summers in WATERTON, spending time with his grandparents and cousins as a kid and as an adult cooking for family and hosting large parties for family and friends. He loved to feed the masses-the more the better. His “need to feed” was legendary.

Palm Springs was another of Pete’s favorite places. He spent several winter months in the sunshine there, golfing and hosting his many and varied friends and loved ones.

Peter will be remembered for his crazy sense of humour, his generosity and his desire to live his life to the fullest.

His passing is such a loss for his daughter Emily Scott (Aaron), his sons Ian MacLean (partner Alyssa Weinkauf), and Davis MacLean (Kiara); his sisters Carol Cruickshank (David), Sue MacLean (Leah Parker) and Kathryn Roberts (Nathan) as well as his sister-in-law Rosie MacLean; grandchildren Oliver and Evelyn Scott and Ozzie MacLean; his best friend and mother of his children Paddy MacLean; in laws Ted and Iris Richardson; stepmother Judy MacLean; aunt Elinor Lucas; his lifelong friend and business partner Lyal Sakamoto as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peter was predeceased by his father Lawrence MacLean; his mother June MacLean; and his brother Patrick MacLean
