FUKUSHIMA, Masahiro (Mas)
Posted: September 2nd, 2022FUKUSHIMA
Mr. Masahiro (Mas) Fukushima passed away peacefully in Lethbridge, at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday August 16th 2022, at the age of 91 years, with his wife and children by his side.
Born on February 10 1931, in Kumamoto Japan, Mas grew up in the town of Jonan and started farming on his parent’s farm. He married his beloved wife Mutsuko on December 17, 1958. Soon after, he left his family to work on a California strawberry farm for 3 years, and this convinced him to take his family to Canada for the chance at a better life. He was a very hard worker and a good teacher for many of the farm employees and he also instilled this strong work ethic in his children. For leisure, he curled, golfed, and gardened.
Mas left farming in 1989 and began a new stage in his life when he moved to Lethbridge to own and operate a janitorial business with his wife. While in Lethbridge, his love of karaoke led him to start a karaoke club and culminated with him organizing an exciting karaoke show.
Mas retired in 2014. During retirement, he continued playing golf and began bowling. He enjoyed watching and keeping up with the latest news in golf, baseball, and sumo. Mas also loved to travel and visited many places with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Mutsuko; and his children, George (Christy), Tom (Rin), and Nina (Ravi); as well as his grandchildren, Emily (Dillan), Aya, and Akira.
For those who wish, a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 13 Street North, Lethbridge.
