1934 – 2022

Joan Francis (née Bennion) cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away in Taber on Friday, September 2, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, September 9, 2022 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, September 10, 2022 between 9:40 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.

The Funeral Service will held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 – 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at www.southlandfuneral.com [1].

Joan is survived by her six children Sandra (Bill) Valgardson of Taber, Bruce (Sandy) Francis of Taber, Connie (Granger) Low of Calgary, Allyson

(Darryl) Christensen of Magrath, Mark (Melanie) Francis of Taber and Cameron (Nikki) Francis of Glenwood. She is also survived by twenty four grandchildren and forty three great grandchildren; brother Douglas (Kay) Bennion; sisters-in-law Dorothy Francis, Carol Francis and Kae Jolley; brother-in-law Jack Francis as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Keith E. Francis;  parents Ira Brant Bennion and Irene Quinton, also by numerous extended family members.

Joan was born in Cardston on February 5, 1934. She grew up in the village of Glenwood and after graduation went to Calgary to further her education. She taught school in Taber, where she met the love of her life. She married Keith E. Francis on April 15, 1954 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They enjoyed sixty five years of marriage.

Joan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. She used her teaching skills to bless the lives of others in the church, community and in her family.

Her hobbies included reading, games and quilting, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Joan made everyone she knew feel special and loved, a friend to all.
