Eric as he was known was born in London, England on the 10thJanuary 1936. An opportunity to attend University College London to study medicine also brought him to Saint Pancras New Church where many lifelong friendships were born. During those summer days, with friends he joined on several pilgrimages, where his relationship with Diana grew. August 1958, saw them married at their beloved Saint Pancras in London.
Richard was born in 1961, naturally at University College Hospital London under the watchful eye of Eric. Then in 1962 a calling to help with the Church of England’s medical mission in Tanganyika saw a move. Stephen was born in early 1963 making the family complete. After the two-year mission a return to England, with surgeries in Bletchley then Caddington and Farley Hill (Luton).
Never one to stay still, 1972 saw the family migrate to Lethbridge, where both Diana and Eric grew firm and happy roots. This was their last move, as it suited them well. Eric joined the Campbell Clinic and retired in late 2005 after over 45 years of medical practice on three continents.
Many tens of thousands of miles running the streets of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta, Chairman of the Public Library, head of the medical staff at both old Lethbridge Hospitals, Sportsman, Classical Music and Opera enthusiast, Naturalist, Shutterbug and World traveller were just some of the things that occupied his days.
A man of strong faith, a caring doctor, a gentleman, a teacher, a friend, and a community minded individual. He has touched so many, and we are all grateful to have known him.
A very special thank you to the staff and doctors at the Chinook Regional Hospital 3B and Saint Michael’s palliative care unit for caring for him in his last few weeks.
