WALTER VUCUREVICH 1936 – 2023 Walter Vucurevich, beloved husband of Janice Vucurevich passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital, on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the age of 86.
Walter is also survived by his children and grandchildren; Steven (Rocio) Mateo, Zachary; Gary (Christine) Blake, Nora; Michael (Dayna) Brady, Elayna, Ily, and Remy. His brothers Bill (Janet), John (Sophie); in-laws Val Vucurevich, Faye (Don) Hamilton, Steve Danyluk, Milo (Mary) Grimsrud, Randy (Wave) Grimsrud and their families. Walter was predeceased by his parents Steve and Helen, his in-laws Gerhard and Bernice Grimsrud, his brothers Nick and Mark, and his sister Jeanne.
Walter was born in Lethbridge, at Galt Hospital on February 23, 1936. He attended school at Raymond, Crystal Lake, McNally and Hardieville Schools. Walters long farming career began at age 15 when his father suffered a massive heart attack, and could no longer work. Farming became his life and, alongside his brothers, they raised beef cattle, sugar beets, cereal crops and forages in the Sunnyside district east of Lethbridge. An engineer at heart, Walter designed and built many things around the farm and house, being especially skilled at welding and woodworking.
He found the love of his life and married Janice Grimsrud on April 3, 1971. They enjoyed over 50 happy years together on the farm right up until his passing.
Walter enjoyed hockey as a player and fan, but mostly as “chauffeur” for his sons. Over the years, he also found time for skiing, working around the yard, road trips to SK and reading anything to do with history, politics or current events.
Retirement kept him and Janice busy with numerous travels in the US and Canada, cruises, coffee with buddies, visits with friends and neighbours, and driving tractor as much as he could.
Most of all he loved his family. Nothing made him more happy or proud than his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Friday, February 24, 2023, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960 19 St S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 1W5.
