NELSON, Rose Mary
Posted: February 23rd, 2023 NELSON ROSE MARY (ALBIZZATI) NELSON, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the age of 94 in the Raymond Health Center after succumbing to a severe fall. Rose was born at home in Hillcrest, Alberta to Luigi Albizzati and Maria Maniago on November 16th, 1928. She was the oldest of 4 children siblings John Albizzati, Loretta Kettlewell, and Allan Albizzati.
Rose attended Hillcrest Elementary School, and graduated grade 12 at Bellevue High School. On August 11, 1949, she married Darrell A. Nelson. They lived in Hillcrest, and Cardston Alberta before moving to Glenwood in 1951. Rose lived there until September 2021 when she relocated to the Raymond Riverview Lodge. She loved living there, so many new friends and activities. She was still driving her car and loved her evening card games. Rose was always a hard worker: as a young girl; a waitress; raising kids without indoor plumbing, growing huge gardens, babysitting; clerking at Van Dan’s store in Glenwood, Waterton Gift Shop, Calgary Woolco; farming alongside with her husband (raising sheep and cattle too!); finally working at the Glenwood Cheese Factory. Starting in 1975 Rose spent 24 years organizing, purchasing, and cooking food for hundreds of hunters for the NWT Outfitters Limited. She was a great cook and there were never any complaints. Rose had a way of making everyone feel at home no matter what the circumstances. She was young at heart, a loyal and supportive wife, mother, and friend. Kind, generous, compassionate, and understanding. She was loved by all who met her.
In her early 30’s Rose joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her faith in Heavenly Father became a powerful influence in her life. She served in many capacities and was a devout member until the end.
As a young woman she loved to play softball. She also loved gameshows, word searches, reading, playing Rook, making people laugh with her special machine, SHOP until everyone drops, and cheering on her favorite teams the Flames and the Mariners which kept her busy. She loved animals especially kittycats. Most of all she loved her family and extended family and was devoted to all. Rose had a special spirit that touched many lives. Through all the pain she suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis and other afflictions she never complained! She always had a smile or a giggle, and a positive attitude. What an example she set for the rest of us.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Darrell. Parents Luigi and Maria Albizzati, infant brother Allan, brothers in law – Edward Lowry, John Sinnott, Ken Kettlewell, and Murray Bullock.
Rose is survived by her children Duane (Linda) Nelson), Suzanne (Wayne) Bennett, Arlene (Johnny) ZoBell. Her sibling John (Berniece) Albizzati, Loretta Kettlewell. A very special brother-in-law Dr. James (Louise) Nelson, and endeared sister-in-law Dorene Bullock. Many nieces and nephews, 8 grandchildren, 5 bonus grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 20 bonus great grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glenwood, Alberta, on Saturday, February 25th, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet the family on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all Dwayne, Linda and Family.
We are very sorry that we wont be able to attend Rosie’s service today, but Fred is a little under the weather.
Rose was a wonderful woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She made the “Team in the Territories” the best in every way. Compassion and genuine kindness were equally her trademarks with her skills in and around the kitchen, whether at Divide, Keele, or June lake camps in the NWT. When you were done your hunt after having worked so hard, you knew Rosie had one of her meals waiting for you at the trail’s end. All the guides and the hunters loved her! She was a great and lasting partner with Darrell, and now they are once again to be walking together into their next adventure.
All our best regards, with the greatest memories
Fred and Bev Thomson
