OBER, Hazel
Posted: June 2nd, 2023 HAZEL E. OBER nee WATMOUGH 1934 – 2023 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hazel. She was a resident at St. Michaels Health Centre in Lethbridge at the time of her passing on May 27, 2023.
She was born on May 14, 1934, in Athabasca, Alberta to Edward and Evelyn Watmough. After a brief time in Athabasca the family moved to Pearce, Alberta near Fort Macleod. She finished her schooling in Fort Macleod and headed to the city. She lived in Lethbridge all her adult life. She married in June of 1961 to Ed Ober and was happily married until Ed’s passing in 1983.
Hazel attended Henderson Business College in Lethbridge and held several secretarial positions before starting with the Lethbridge and District United Way. She organized over 25 fundraising campaigns for the United way until her retirement in 1993.
The years after retirement kept her busy with her various crafts and hobbies. She even started golfing, putting in a few years at the course in Waterton. She was acknowledged by Alberta Health Services in 2010 for over 590 hours of volunteer service for her knitting and crocheting of blankets, hats, and slippers. A lot of relatives and friends received blankets as gifts as well and she was happy and proud to do them.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Ed; her parents, Ed and Evelyn Watmough; her brothers, Charlie and Les; and her sister Marian.
She is survived by her children Susan (Pat Seerey) of Waterton, and Craig (Sheila) of High River; 2 grandchildren, Jordan Ober of Kelowna BC, and Dylan Ober of Lethbridge; 2 great-granddaughters Anzley and Summer of Kelowna, BC; brother Gordon (Bertha) of Terrace BC; as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, June 5, 2023, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 ST S, Lethbridge, AB.

Sorry to hear of your loss Susan and Craig, but I can visualize the four of them together again and kicking their heals up at yet another Olds College Union gathering on a warm summers evening.
