Ruby, a daughter of Alexander and Rose (née Walters) Runtz, was born on September 25, 1936 in Arnprior, Ontario. She married Allan Cleroux on October 1, 1955 in Arnprior, Ontario. Four children were born to them in various locations in Ontario, before they headed west to Vauxhall in 1977. Ruby was active in the Mennonite Brethren church, the Vauxhall community and focused on her writing interests. She and Allan built their dream home on the acreage north of Vauxhall and retired there. They had made Alberta their home, enjoying all the big open skyscapes, especially sunsets. Ruby moved to Lethbridge after the love of her life passed away unexpectedly in January 2000.
Her main focus was the writing of her historical novel. She also was involved with the Evangelical Free Church, beloved prayer group, and with her close friends.
Shortly after her seventy ninth birthday, Ruby was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and underwent several cancer treatments. She remained in her condo in Lethbridge until November 2018, when she moved to Saskatchewan, living first in Saskatoon for a year and a half, and then moving to Diamond House in Warman.
