NYENHUIS, Anne “Antje”

NYENHUIS ANNE (ANTJE) NYENHUIS, beloved wife of the late Harm Nyenhuis, passed away at home in Lethbridge, on Monday, June 19, 2023 at the age of 89 years.
Anne is survived by her children, Anneke and Dick (Gayle); granddaughters Lindsay (Alex) King, Samantha Nyenhuis; and great-granddaughter, Olivia King; one brother, John (Edna) Verschoor; sisters Janny Kalf, Betty Groenenboom, Cobie Den Hollander and Nel (John) Van Es; as well as many of her siblings’ children and grandchildren who all knew her as Tante Annie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harm Nyenhuis; parents Jacob and Sophia Verschoor; brother, Casey Verschoor; an infant brother and three brothers-in-law.
Born and raised in Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands, Anne emigrated with her siblings and parents to Canada in 1952. After one year working for a sugar beet farmer near Raymond, she and her family moved to Edmonton in order to learn English and save money to buy a farm. She remained in Edmonton after meeting Harm Nyenhuis and were married in 1956, remaining in Edmonton where they were blessed with two children. After Harm’s passing in 1963, Anne moved to Rainier to be closer to her family where she stayed until moving to Lethbridge after the farm was sold.
Anne’s love for travel was evident in the number of trips she took in the last 30 years. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, cross-stitch, crossword puzzles and having lunches with friends. She had many friends through sorority, swimming, bowling and church, being a faithful member of Southminster United Church. Her love and pride of her family shone every day in everything she did.
A Celebration of Anne’s Life will be held at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 – 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Taylor Croissant officiating. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Anne, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca) which has impacted a number of her family members.
