Robert Waddell Tomlinson, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Tomlinson, passed away in Taber on Monday, July 3, 2023 at the age of 100 years.
Bob was born to Jack and Inez Tomlinson in Ely, Iowa while visiting relatives in the United States. His early years were spent in many places across Canada as his dad worked road construction for Tomlinson Construction. Bob’s school years were spent in Saskatoon and St. Walberg, Saskatchewan. Following his graduation from high school, WWII had already broken out. Bob enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force Bomber Squadron, where he served as an accomplished bomb aimer in Halifax aircraft flying in many missions over Germany.
After the war, he worked road construction until his dad talked him into joining him on a farming operation at Loon Lake, Saskatchewan. Bob met Dorothy at Loon Lake and they were married in 1950. Following the passing of his father, Bob and Dorothy “Dot” took over the family farm and stayed there until 1974 when he moved to Lethbridge. In Lethbridge, Bob went to work for Kirchner Machine, an implement manufacturer, until he retired in 1987.
Bob and Dot spent the next few years travelling Canada and camping, filling their photo albums with many memories. Later, Dorothy came down with Alzheimer’s disease where Bob became the best caregiver anyone could have. After her passing, he returned to local camping and fishing. His goal was to live to 100, which he did, thanks to a couple of exceptionally good care homes and their staff.
Bob was the oldest of six, his siblings Alf, Ralph, Jack, Bruce and Betty all predeceased him. He leaves behind three children Bryan, Sharon and Garry, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bob was a Legion member and a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan, formerly of Loon Lake.
