ARNFINSON, Terrence “Terry”

Posted: September 9th, 2023

ARNFINSON It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, TERRENCE SIGFUS ARNFINSON “Terry”, at the age of 77, on September 4th, 2023, at his home in Coutts, Alberta.
He is survived by his step-son, Randy (Annalia) King; granddaughter, Jasmine King; daughter, Lanna (Lance) Elsenheimer; grandsons, Liam and Logan Elsenheimer; his sisters: Illa (Bill) Drever, Corinne (Ian) Scott, and Jonina Weir. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Terry was predeceased by his father, Sigfus Arnfinson; his mother, Tresa (Hadel) Arnfinson; his eldest sister, Carol Nelson; and brothers-in-law Mervyn Nelson and Andrew Weir.
If only two words could be used to describe Terry, they would be ‘curiosity’ and ‘kindness’. He was always interested in an eclectic array of topics from music to history and geography, cooking, and house construction. He was a self-made mechanic, carpenter, plumber, and electrician.
In his younger years, he loved taking things apart to see how they operated, everything from clocks and radios, to his first three-speed bicycle, and his first cars. Terry loved his Norton motorcycle and made numerous trips from B.C. to Manitoba and into the U.S.A.
He worked as a deckhand in the N.W.T. with Northern Transportation, an underground miner in Thompson, Manitoba, and a nursing orderly at the University of Alberta and Glenrose Hospitals in Edmonton. Terry took Law Enforcement & Corrections at Grant McEwan College in Edmonton and upon completion, went to work for Canada Customs for 31 years, from April 1976 at the Edmonton Post Office for a decade, then at the Port of Coutts, Alberta until his retirement on January 31, 2007. He was a proud recipient of numerous accolades and medals for outstanding service as a Customs Officer over the years.
Terry will be sorrowfully missed by his family and many friends. A memorial and celebration of life will be held in Coutts, Alberta in March 2024.
Further information will be forthcoming closer to that date. A private interment will be held.
Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home, Lethbridge.
