NORA ILENE DEWHIRST 1923 – 2023 Mrs. Nora Dewhirst of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Walter Dewhirst, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the age of 100 years.
Nora was born February 29, 1923, to William and Vira Moore in Camrose Alberta and was the fourth of 10 children. While working in a café in Cochrane, she met Walter Dewhirst who was an Army medic at the prisoner of war camp. They were soon married and in 1945 transferred to Lethbridge where they bought an acreage at Stewart Siding. They raised five children: Judy, Barb, Gordon, a niece Cindy and a nephew Glen. Nora worked hard raising kids, growing and harvesting a large garden and baking bread to sell at the Municipal Hospital where Walter worked.
After Walter’s early death in 1967, Nora found her dream job as a physio assistant at the hospital where she worked for 25 years. After retiring, she and her friend Vella travelled to many European countries and Ireland where she reunited with her Irish family.
Nora is survived by her son Gordon (Lynne) and grandchildren Theresa, Lori, Brenda, Cam, Jenny, Andy, Erin and their families.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter; daughters Judy (AI Desrosiers) and Barbara (Bill McCann); and grandson Troy Desrosiers.
Nora was an Associate of the Sisters of St. John the Divine convent in Toronto since 1972.
