ADRIAN “ED” GOUW 1933 – 2023 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Adrian “Ed” Gouw on October 8, 2023, at the age of 90 years.
Ed was the beloved husband of Marion Van Peer-Gouw for 32 years; the loving father of his daughter, Joanne (Larry), and two sons, Arie (Nina) and Ken (Tracy); and the proud opa of his six grandchildren, Arianne, Noelle, Avery, Tyler, Tyler, and Megan. He is predeceased by his parents, Arie and Bastiaantje, as well as 2 sisters and 3 brothers, and is survived by 1 sister and 3 brothers.
Originally born in The Netherlands in the town of Barendrecht, Ed came to Canada, “The Land of Opportunity”, in the spring of 1951 with his parents and 9 siblings. Once here, he worked several different jobs before continuing his education at SAIT and becoming a Master Plumber and First-Class Pipefitter. He worked at City Plumbing and at his own company, Ed’s Plumbing Ltd., for a combined 30+ years before spending the final 2 decades of his career at KB Heating, where he served as a mentor to the next generation of plumbers.
Ed was an avid gardener throughout his entire life, starting with his own small vegetable garden as a teenager in Holland and continuing for nearly 80 years thereafter. His flower garden was often the envy of the neighbourhood, with roses and begonias ranking as his personal favourites. He and Marion were able to see much of the world during their time together, including several trips back to Holland, exploring all over Europe, and cruising through Alaska. Maui was Ed’s top travel destination, though when asked about his favourite places he would remark that there’s nowhere he’d rather be than at home by the fireplace or entertaining in their backyard, amongst the flowers, with friends and family.
A Viewing will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Friday, October 13, 2023, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at ST. ANDREWS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1818 5 AVE S, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Daniel Surya, officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
