CAMPBELL, Karen
Posted: October 13th, 2023 CAMPBELL Karen Campbell, blessed daughter, sister, aunt and friend, died peacefully in her home on a fine autumn day, Tuesday, September 26, 2023. She is survived by her parents, Jim Reginald & Wendy Lillian Campbell (Brackenbury), brother Bruce James Campbell (Deanna Brown), niece Nicola Tara Campbell, nephew Alex Ryan Campbell, and many loving friends.
Karen Campbell was born on October 31, 1957, in Saltwood Village-near-Hythe, Kent, England. She immigrated with her family to Calgary, Alberta in 1966.
Karen’s desire to go to art school led her to Emily Carr University, where she graduated with a degree in Fine Arts (1994), and later received her MFA from the University of Saskatchewan (1998). Throughout her life, Karen sustained an independent visual art practice, with a focus on ideas of drawing, painting and ceramics. She presented her work in solo and group exhibits across Canada.
Karen was a talented story teller, conversationalist, and hiking partner. She shared her experiences of the wilderness and back country with many of her dear friends, and through her professional work as a guide with Parks Canada. She nurtured a strong relationship with people and places, across southern Alberta, British Colombia, Saskatchewan and the Yukon. Her love for art and hiking was contagious, and her connections with friends were strong – lasting throughout her lifetime. Karen said herself, “She danced well on this planet earth!”
Karen will be remembered and cherished by her loved ones for her fiery wit, wild humour, and easy laughter. Not to mention her lovely dinner and garden parties.
