WALTER GORDON WATT 1941 – 2023 Mr. Walter Gordon Watt of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Lorri Watt, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on December 10, 2023, at the age of 82 years.
Walter entered this world at the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge and spent his first few years on the family farm. In 1948 the family loaded all their possessions on the train and the journey to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia began. Many stories were told of Walt’s years growing up in Burnaby, none more important than his love of the BC Lions and attending their home games at Empire Stadium. In 1958 he joined the Canadian Army, 8th Canadian Hussars, serving Canada at home and overseas until 1966. At that time, he returned to the west coast where he worked numerous jobs, journeying back to Lethbridge in the early 1970s. For several years, Walter owned his own business, and in 1979 joined the Alberta Corrections Service. He was a dedicated officer and an active member of the AUPE until his retirement in 2003. Walter was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, General Stewart Branch No 4 here in Lethbridge for 50 years.
In retirement, Walter spent many hours puttering in his shop or camping and fishing in the Boundary Creek and Police Lake area of Southwest Alberta. He also spent time on the patio creating tasty treats in his smoker or on his barbeque.
Walter is survived by his daughter Darlene (Gus) Watt; stepsons Tony (Joyce) Farough; Chuck (Heather) Farough; and his grandchildren Ethan Frisse, Alex, Kate, Raelynn and Aubrey Farough.
He is also survived by his sister Diane (Greg) Dyble; niece Christie (Rob) Wall and their children Zach and Annika; his nephew Jaron (Meriya) Dyble and their children Raena and Emryn; as well as numerous family members throughout BC and the Prairie Provinces.
Besides his wife Lorri, Walter was predeceased by his parents Alex and Phyllis Watt and his brother, Ken.
A gathering for family and friends to remember Walter and say their final good-byes will be held in the new year. Arrangements to be announced when completed. Cremation has been entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.
