She is also survived by her brothers John Bennett (Andrea) and his children Claire, Jayne and Rachel; Dean Bennett and his children Liv and Tom.
She was predeceased by her husband Arnold; parents Douglas and Betty Bennett.
Kay was born on November 13, 1942, in Mountain Ash, Wales, United Kingdom to Douglas and Betty Bennett. She was raised in Mountain Ash, a small coal mining town nestled in the Welsh hills. Her father, a hardworking coal miner and World War II veteran, instilled in her the values of kindness and patience, traits that defined Kay throughout her life.
Kay attended Mountain Ash Comprehensive and pursued her studies at St. Osyth’s College in Clacton. She became a home economics teacher, a career that led her to many enriching experiences and eventually brought her to Canada. In 1968, Kay moved to Cardston to teach. It was there she met Arnold Nevil of Picture Butte, who captured her heart with his charm and a fancy Dodge Super B. The two married on December 27, 1969, and settled on a cozy acreage in Cranford, a place Kay lovingly called home for the past fifty five years.
Kay and Arnold welcomed their first child Darrell in October 1970, followed by Duane eighteen months later, and their daughter Jody, three years after that. Devoted to her family, Kay dedicated herself to raising her children and tending to their lively acreage filled with animals.
As her children grew, Kay resumed work, taking on roles that showcased her dedication and resourcefulness. She cleaned the Cranford Hall, cooked at the Cranford Super Stop, worked at Verl’s Automotive in Barnwell, and managed bookkeeping at Automart. Eventually, she returned to education, becoming an EA at Barnwell School, where her warmth and compassion left a lasting impact on the children she supported.
In her retirement, Kay found joy in her yard work and volunteering with Communities in Bloom. She cherished her family above all else, often saying she was the luckiest person in the world because of them. She was an incredibly proud mom, nana and great nana who gave her all for her loved ones.
Kay is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Kay’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 2P5 (www.cancer.ca).
Kay’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Jack Addy Cancer Center, Dr. Torrie and his staff, the Palliative Care team and the staff at Taber Health Centre.
