ROSENVALL, Lynn

ROSENVALL LYNN ALBERT ROSENVALL, of Cardston, passed away in Cardston, Alberta, on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the age of 85. Lynn was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth Ann (Kurtz) Rosenvall (deceased March 2010) and is survived by his loving wife Marilyn (Cahoon) Rosenvall, whom he married in 2018.
Lynn is also survived and will be dearly missed by his children and their spouses, eighteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren: David and Denise Rosenvall and their children Rebecca, Diana, Curtis (Regan), and Jared; Carol Garrick (Craig – deceased) and her children Jaxon and Jayden (Rebecca); Julie and Derek Kearl and their children Daniel (Natasha) with great grandchildren David, Elizabeth, and Alanna, Emily (Eric) Hendrickson with great grandchildren Gavin and Dean, and Scott (Emma); Laura and Jamie Mulholland and their children Brianna Johnson (Ben) with great grandchildren Crew and Knox, Jordan, Jamis, Brooklyn Evans (Joshua), and Jacob; and Heather Rosenvall and her children Ethan McKinlay (Yun), Davis McKinlay, and Lauren McKinlay. Lynn will also be missed by Marilyn’s large family, who were wonderful to him these past five years.
Lynn was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 19, 1938. Lynn was the son of Erick and Vernice (Gold) Rosenvall, and brother to Jean Orgill (Richard), Alan Rosenvall, Anita Mills (Roger – deceased, and Jim Lord), and James Rosenvall (Katherine). Lynn loved his parents, his siblings and their spouses, and his nieces and nephews, and they loved him. Anita, Jim, Katherine and Jim survive Lynn’s passing.
Lynn devoted his life to service. As a teenager, he moved to New Zealand with his mother, father and Jim, where his father oversaw the construction of the New Zealand Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lynn served a two year building mission, followed by a two and a half year proselyting mission.
Lynn returned to Utah after his mission and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Utah. Lynn and Beth were married September 4, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple. Immediately thereafter, they moved to Berkeley, California, where Lynn earned a doctorate degree in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley.
In 1969, Lynn accepted a faculty position with the newly established University of Calgary, so that he and Beth could raise their family close to Beth’s parents and other family. Lynn taught and was an administrator at U of C until he retired in 2002. Lynn enjoyed his work experiences and colleagues. Lynn had great faith and loved service in his church. He served in many capacities including as Stake President, Regional Representative, Area Authority Seventy, and President of the Cardston, Alberta Temple (with Beth as Matron of the Temple).
Shortly after completing their temple service, Lynn and Beth permanently moved to Cardston. While in Cardston, Beth passed away in March 2010. After over eight years a widower, Lynn found and married Marilyn in November 2018.
Lynn’s love and kindness for others, love of the gospel, and the love of the scriptures will be greatly missed.
In his last few years, as his health waned, Lynn was under the exceptional care and concern of those around him, the foremost of which was Marilyn and her children and their spouses. We (Lynn’s children) will forever be grateful to her and them.
Friends may meet the family on Friday, February 9th, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston, or at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 – 10:45 am, prior to the service. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel (355 3 St W, Cardston) Saturday, February 10th, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow the service in the Cardston Cemetery.
