Posted: March 6th, 2024 GLORIA HARKER ALSTON MARCH 11, 1930 – MARCH 1, 2024 Ten days before her 94th birthday, Gloria Alston passed away in Magrath, Alberta, the town she was born in and lived all of her life. Gloria was the 11th of 12 children (8th daughter) of Nephi and Hattie (Bingham) Harker. She was raised with a strong love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many leadership roles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After retirement she served in the Cardston Temple with her husband for many years. In 1951, Gloria married her high school sweetheart, Tyler Alston and they spent over 72 years together. They raised 5 children: Arana (Bruce) Lyle; Jane (Greg) Romeril; Bill (Susan) Alston; Tom Alston and Burke (Sheila) Alston. She is survived by her husband and their 5 children including 19 grand children and 55 great grand children. Gloria is also survived by her sister Martha Wright and was predeceased by her grandson Joshua Alston. Gloria took great pride in her home, cooking for others and serving in her younger years. She was an excellent student and worked at the Magrath Trading Company and the Bank of Montreal for many years, before joining Tyler to help run their Oil and Gas business that they had taken over in 1952. They retired in 1992 with a 40 year service plaque from BA, Gulf Oil and Petro Canada. Friends may meet the family at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Garden Place Chapel, (Corner of Center Street and 2 Ave North) in Magrath, AB on Thursday, March 7 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Garden Place Chapel on Friday, March 8 at 1:00 pm. Friends may also meet the family from 11:45 am – 12:45 pm prior to the service. Interment will take place in the Magrath Cemetery, Magrath, AB.

I have known gloria since she was in High School. She was always a leader, someone to accomplish important things and a good friend. She served many people in many ways. We enjoyed her at DUP and her faithful service. How wonderful she can be released after such a long illness and enjoy her family who have passed on.
