Rick, or “Steamer” as he was known to many, was born in Taber on October 23, 1968 to Paul and Linda Gregus. He attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated grade twelve at St. Mary’s School as valedictorian. Following high school, Rick attended college to train as an electrician but told his dad he’d rather be a farmer just like him, which he did until the time of his passing. He purchased land about a mile and a half from where he grew up. Rick took tremendous pride in farming and never was one to ask for help.
Rick was a man of few words but you could tell when he wanted to talk, he would show up with coffee from McDonald’s and sit at the kitchen table. When he was younger, he played hockey, wearing his favourite number twenty three and liked to cheer for the Minnesota/Dallas Stars. He like to golf and visit with friends and watch his favorite sports teams. He even kept loyalty to his football team, the Cleveland Browns. When Rick was younger, he took pleasure in teasing his siblings. He was a great big brother until you beat him at sports or board games and then, watch out!
Rick had such a big heart, but he kept it private. It wasn’t until his passing that his family found out how much of a big heart he had. They didn’t see him every day, but would see him drive by to go for coffee and knew he was okay. He was a friend to many and never had a bad word to say about anyone. we loved him and are going to miss him. “Rick, we love you and dearly miss you. Football season will never be the same on Sundays at the Royal without you. Love mom, dad, Rhonda, Ryan and Kristy.”
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Rick’s name may be made directly to the charity of one’s personal choice.
