Armand J Cyr July 23, 1934 – April 23, 2024 Armand was born and raised on a farm near Burdett, AB the second eldest of four siblings to Eugene and Elizabeth Cyr. He graduated grade 12 then operated heavy equipment in southern and northern Alberta. He met Ellen Hellmer at the 1960 New Years Eve dance in Bow Island, AB and were married April 18, 1963. Armand wanted to farm and looked at then purchased homestead land in the Fourth Creek area of the Peace country. There his three kids Crystal, Miles and Lex grew up helping in all aspects of farm life, especially the root and rock picking!. After a few moves back and forth from Rycroft to Fourth Creek the family finally settled on the last piece of land to be added to Armand’s farm in 1974. Over his 40+ years of farming he specialized in certified grass seeds but grew just about everything in-between as well. Goats, chickens, geese, cats and dogs also graced the farm, something to keep the kids busy. Armand also worked heavy construction equipment over his years building roads then brushing, piling and breaking land. He run cat during the winters until 1980, then the farm supported itself. During the winters he would complete maintenance on the equipment.
Armand and Ellen retired from the farm in 2004, moving into Grande Prairie. He got involved with volunteer work at the Catholic church and did some traveling throughout Alberta and BC. Friends and family were important to him and he always enjoyed the visits, playing card games and catching up.
Sadly the youngest son, Lex suddenly passed away and then COVID hit. This took it’s toll on both Armand and Ellen. Armand moved to the Grande Prairie Care Center Nov 2021 with Alzheimer’s. He loved to tease and have a good time and that continued with giving the staff a hard time, he was always trying to run over their toes. He is now free of all encumbrances, playing crib with his son and good life times buddies gone before him. Till we meet again…
