JEANNE B. LOW 1927 – 2024 It is with sorrow and gratitude that the family of Jeanne Bagley Low announce her passing, in her beloved Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale, Aug 16, 2024.
As a resident of Coaldale for over 60 years, she left a profound influence on all those who were blessed to know her. Jeanne was born in 1927 in Salt Lake City – to Hawley Bagley and Adelila Hogensen. Her growing up was notably influenced by the tragic events of the Great Depression and WW2- as well as the death of a brother. She was strengthened by the family’s faith in Christ and the promise of eternal families – both of which she instilled deeply in her children’s hearts. Jeanne was outgoing and enthusiastically loved life. Her family was tight knit – particularly after the early death of her brother Alan. Her brothers Melvin and Gerald (Jiggs) and her dear sister Marie all rejoiced in loving family meals, camping and singing. She performed, loved sports and was a keen student – first graduating from Granite High and then entering, and graduating from the U of Utah. While there, she met a quiet Canadian pharmacy student named LeRon Low and the day after their graduation in 1950 they were married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple would always play a major role in their life together.
After brief stints in Utah and Idaho, Jeanne would accompany LeRon to Edmonton – arriving with her 3 small children in the depth of a Canadian winter. Amazingly, she never looked back and completely embraced her new home and very quickly became a proud Canadian citizen. Such positivity would imbue her entire life. While in Edmonton, she immediately made several dear friends, many of which remained so for her entire life.
When Ron opened a pharmacy there, the family would eventually end up in Coaldale – which would be her final home. It was a symbiosis – this great community encircling her little family with support and she contributing mightily back. Five children eventually would complete the family and they all grew up and graduated from Kate Andrews. Jeanne returned to school at U of L herself in those years – becoming a teacher and teaching both at RI Baker and then Kate Andrews. Over 21 years many students were fortunate enough to learn both English and Home Economics. This was a perfect combination of two of her greatest passions. Whether it be Juliet, Portia – or bread or quilting- Jeanne passed her love on to many. Her meals, baking and sewing were legendary. She also always strived, and only partially succeeded, to replicate her father’s Utah garden/orchard. Cherries, peaches and apricots always evaded her (considerable) efforts – but everything else was produced and preserved with patience. She gave to all who knew her a wonderful heritage of enthusiasm for learning.
Church service saw her in Relief Society, Young Women’s and of course, Temple service. Two temple missions (Dallas and Washington) and then devoted service in Cardston blessed her and her family’s life. Her faith was firm – and deeply instilled into her children/grandchildren. Frailty would force Jeanne to leave her beloved home & garden in Coaldale and enter Sunny South Lodge with her husband in 2015. This would be her final home, alone after the passing of LeRon in 2016. An expert conversationalist and friend – she soon had a new circle of friends there – amazingly even compiling family histories for many of them! She loved everyone, and those who cared for her felt this deeply – such care would go on to sustain her for many of her final years while dependent as her eyesight and mobility would fade. The love and devotion shown to her is greatly appreciated and recognized by her family.
Jeanne has a posterity of 155 – all who call her grandma and who will not forget or cease to live out her legacy. She is survived by her children- Kathy Galbraith, Patti & Neil Harker, Richard and Gayle Low, George & Mino Low and Steven & Jayne Low. We all love and honour her and will always do so. Many of her grandchildren hold some of her recipes as their greatest possessions! They may share such with any who ask!
Jeanne was 97, and how precious a life she led and how grateful we all are to have known her! We rejoice that she has gone on to a long-awaited reunion with so many.
The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday August 24, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, COALDALE CHAPEL (2216 21a Ave, Coaldale).
Friends are welcome to meet with the family on Friday August 23, 2024 from 7:00 to 8:00pm at the COALDALE CHAPEL, and Saturday August 24, 2024 from 1:00 – 1:45pm also at the church in Coaldale.
The Interment will take place at 10:00am on Saturday at the Cardston Cemetery.
