RICHARDS, Shirley
Posted: August 20th, 2024RICHARDS SHIRLEY MAY (OVIATT) RICHARDS, a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, in Cardston, Alberta, at the age of 93.
Shirley was born on September 18, 1930, in Claresholm, Alberta, and spent her formative years in Hartley, Alberta. After completing Teachers College, Shirley embarked on her teaching career in Aetna, Alberta, where she met the love of her life, Dick Richards. The two were married in 1950 in the Cardston Temple, beginning a 73-year journey together. They built a life in Aetna Village, where they shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage.
After retiring, Shirley and Dick relocated to Cardston, Alberta. In their later years, they moved into the Chinook Lodge, where they resided together until their passing. Throughout her life, Shirley was devoted to serving others and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Dick, and her son, Robert (Bob). She leaves behind a legacy of love through her six children: Kaye, Douglas (Patty), Patricia Patterson (John, deceased), Robert, deceased (Vivian), Christine Wendel (Cam), and Kendon (Kristi). Shirley was also a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 38 great-grandchildren. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Chinook Lodge, the hospital staff, and the many family members and friends who provided companionship, love, and support to Shirley in her final years.
Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel (355 3 St W, Cardston) Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Aetna Cemetery.
