Besides his loving wife, Frank is survived and remembered by his children Annette (Don) Widmer and her family Jesse (Crystal) Wolfer and their children Joshua and Emmeline, and Valerica Wolfer; Patrick (Angela) Machacek and their children Peyton and Hannah. Frank is also survived by his brothers and sister Joe (Lillian) Machacek, Mary Krizan, Al (Jennie) Machacek and Jerry (Eleanor) Machacek; sister-in-law Marg McCulloch, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Anna Machacek, infant sister Lydia, his father and mother-in-law Robert and Lillian Paterson, son-in-law Murray Wolfer, brother-in-law John Krizan, brother-in-law Bill Paterson, brother and sister-in-law Nick and Sharon Czibere and brother-in-law Dave McCulloch.
Frank was born on October 16, 1942, on Floyd and Anna’s farm southeast of Taber. He attended primary school in Taber and was a member of the first graduating class of St. Mary’s High School in 1960. It was fitting that Frank was born during sugar beet harvest season as he and his brothers farmed together with their father in those early years. He purchased a farm of his own in 1966 south of the Taber Sugar Factory where he and Linda (née Paterson) would reside for the next forty five years after their marriage in November of 1966. The Machacek farm remained a central part of Frank and Linda’s lives for over four decades as they raised their children, hosted numerous family get-togethers, and in their later years saw their grandchildren experience and enjoy the family farm.
In 2011, Frank and Linda moved into Taber where they resided until his passing. Over the years, they often traveled with family and friends, including Patrick and Angela’s wedding in Slovenia in 1995 and their cruise up the Amazon during their twenty fifth wedding anniversary in 1991. But Frank was happiest to spend time with family, whether it was camping at Elkwater with his kids and grandchildren, or attending Annette’s marriage to Don Widmer in June of 2023.
Frank and Linda were most at home with company at the dinner table, sharing a meal and a fresh pot of coffee, and great conversation. He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, generous demeanor, and was always up for a game of cribbage or a visit with family and friends. Even throughout his final days as his health was failing, Frank kept up his warmth toward others and sense of humor. He deeply appreciated the many family and friends who visited him in the hospital and everyone who sent along their thoughts and prayers.
