HAMMERSTEDT OLE HAMMERSTEDT, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Clara Hammerstedt, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 97 years.

Ole is survived by his son, Ron (Kim), and daughters: Peggy (Kim) and Lori (Scott); and daughter-in-law Judy; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides his loving wife Clara, he was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy and son, Ken. Ole was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba in 1927 to Swedish immigrant parents, John and Annie Hammerstedt. Ole grew up in the wilderness country along the Winnipeg River and became a skilled woodsman, trapper and carpenter in his early years. He later moved into Winnipeg, and finally to southern Alberta where he worked as a gas fitter and ultimately as the Utilities, Bylaw, and Development officer for the Municipal District of Taber.

He married Clara, the love of his life in 1949 and they remained together for 71 years, until Clara’s passing in 2020.

He was defined more by his interests than his career. He passed on his love of the outdoors to his children through many years of camping, fishing and hunting with them. He was also known for his musicianship and was a skilled guitar player and entertainer. He spent many years entertaining for seniors in the Lethbridge area after his retirement.

In his later years, Ole became an effective advocate for his fellow senior citizens. He will never be forgotten by those whose lives he influenced in a positive way.

Ole was a wonderful and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband. He was also a favourite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews and will be deeply missed by all of his family.

A Celebration of Ole’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. with Derek Bly officiating.
