LAMMERTSEN, Arlene
Posted: October 3rd, 2024LAMMERTSEN Come to me, all you who are weary and burden and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28) In our Lord’s infinite wisdom, he chose to call His beloved child, ARLENE BRENDA LAMMERTSEN, home to be with Him on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the age of 63, after a brief illness. We who loved Arlene immensely grieve her loss, yet know that her pain and suffering is no more.
Arlene is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, George; her son Ryan (Keila), and their children, Rebecca and Benjamin of Surrey, BC; son Tyler (Leanne), and their children, Sam, Charlotte, and Annie, of Lethbridge; sister Sharon (Andy) Houweling; brothers Ron and Leroy Schalk; and sister-in-law Aly (Jerry) Visser of Rocky Mountain House, AB. She is also survived by many uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews. Furthermore, she is survived by her daughter-in-spirit, Yukiko Imai, of Japan. There are so many other friends and colleagues left behind, all of whom she cherished deeply.
She was predeceased by her father, Casey Schalk and parents-in-law, Henk and Bertha Lammertsen, her nephew, Derek Schalk, and her child that she was never able to meet on this earth.
Arlene was born to Casey and Florence Schalk in Lethbridge on August 13, 1961. Over time, she was joined by her sister, Sharon and two brothers, Ron and Leroy. Arlene attended and graduated from Immanuel Christian Schools in 1979. Following high school, she attended Grant MacEwan College studying her great passion, Early Childhood Education. It was in Edmonton that she met her love, George, and they were married on July 29th, 1983. From that time on, they were on a wonderful adventure and they soon welcomed their sons, Ryan and Tyler.
One of Arlene’s great joys was the care and teaching of children. Arlene followed her passion while they lived in Beiseker, and later when they moved to Lethbridge, volunteering for many years at her church’s Sunday School program. She worked for many years at Park Meadows Christian Playschool, with wonderful colleagues to offer the best preschool program in Lethbridge. Even more recently, Arlene recalled many of her wonderful students, who shared great memories with “Teacher Arlene”.
Arlene’s greatest delight was in her grandchildren. She loved to be with them, both in person and via Facetime, whether reading books, doing arts and crafts or watching their school or sport events. Her pride in her grandkids was immense and she was not only “Grammie”, but teacher and friend.
