Stern, Rhea
Posted: November 8th, 2024 RHEA HARRIET STERN May 17, 1948 – October 26, 2024 Most people learn to walk once, Rhea wanted to walk three times. Rhea’s mantra, “I will walk again,” echoes among her friends and caregivers. So positive!
Born in Montreal, Rhea’s beautiful vessel began her eternal voyage in the arms of her loving husband David in their home at Lethbridge.
Rhea’s life is a testimony to loyalty, loving, determination, focus, quiet resolve and humility. A magnificent example of mother – son bonding, her love for her son Robb, teaches tenderness in caring with strength.
This past year Rhea has three life saving surgeries. Daunting they were. Rhea emerged each time more willful to live. We learn so much of human depth in such times. Waking briefly from one lengthy surgery, Robb and I by her, she said “Are you guys okay?”, always thinking of others first!
Rhea’s kindness, trusting, generosity of spirit, listening and understanding were who she was long before I met her over 40 years ago. Rhea is humble!
We are most grateful to the medical staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital, Lethbridge Hospital, St. Michael’s Health Centre’s PARP program and Lethbridge Orthotics.
During early afternoon on the day she died Rhea won! She crossed her finish line! Rhea walked without a cane or walker!
It is a privilege and honour to be Rhea’s partner and companion for decades. I will do my best to speak of and to Rhea in the present tense. Rhea’s life and story continues with people who knew her well and love her.
May her beauty and vessel enjoy fair breezes on her journey to forever!
“We are stardust” Carl Sagan There will be a gathering to remember Rhea in the future. An announcement will be published. Should you wish, Rhea’s charities were: Women’s Shelter, Diabetes, War Amps and the Food Bank.
