PICKLES, Carolyn
Posted: November 9th, 2024 PICKLES, Carolyn November 11, 1944 – November 5, 2024 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Rose Pickles (nee Thrower). She was the beloved wife of Barry; a devoted mother to Paul, Scott, Penny, and Sandi; a cherished grandmother to Liam, Cailean, and Rhydian; and a welcoming mother-in-law to “the two Waynes.”
Born in Toronto, ON, Carolyn pursued a lifelong dream of helping others by earning her nursing degree. A job opportunity in Calgary brought her west, where a chance encounter introduced her to a young British lad named Barry Pickles. Their connection was immediate, and they quickly became each other’s best friend and confidant. They were married in 1970 and built a life together in Lethbridge, where Carolyn continued her nursing career. As their family grew, her focus shifted to being a stay-at-home mom and the heart of the household. If we may say so, we brought her boundless joy – and, admittedly, more than a few gray hairs. She could scare us into behaving with just one look.
Carolyn’s kindness, humour, and compassion shone through in her relationships and community involvement. She was the self-appointed neighbourhood watch Captain of 18th Street N, with her chair a permanent fixture in the window. She had a passion for knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Above all, Carolyn was a cherished friend to many, and her legacy of love, service, and resilience will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at a later date.
