Lydia was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia and moved to Budapest, Hungary as a young girl with her parents. As a young woman, she was a welder and helped to weld the first street car in Budapest. Lydia fell in love and married Joseph Vaczy and together, they came to Canada during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution to seek a better life. Lydia worked in many capacities until she started a family, at which time she stayed home to care for them. Later on, she was a valuable employee of Woodward’s, serving as hostess and bus girl in the very busy restaurant.
Lydia was always described by all who met her as a sweet and lovely person. Her kindness touched many. She loved her family and worked hard to make a loving home for them. She was an amazing cook, making many of her Hungarian recipes at holiday times for all to enjoy. She loved the outdoors and summer found her in both her vegetable garden and flower garden, growing delicious food and beautiful flowers. Waterton was a favorite place for her to visit. When she could no longer do those things, she loved to sit outside with the sun on her back. Lydia was a devoted and loving Nagymama to her grandchildren and was always thrilled when they would come and see her. Lydia was greatly loved and will be forever missed.
In respect of Lydia’s wishes, a private family service will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
