PAULETTE HUMPHREY 1953 – 2025 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paulette Humphrey of Lethbridge, Alberta, on January 13, 2025, at the age of 71. Paulette passed away peacefully and suddenly at her home.
Born on April 1, 1953, to her late parents Joseph and Jean Dietl, Paulette led a life full of adventure, love, and hard work. Known for her strong will and sense of independence, Paulette had a diverse career path and was passionate about the open road. Although she often joked about being “geographically challenged,” she found joy in her travel-based jobs. Paulette drove school buses, taxis, and proudly held a Class 1 license, transporting goods into the United States.
Paulette had a deep love for family and the outdoors. She treasured camping, fishing, and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Paulette loved to embrace the freedom of riding motorcycles, enjoying the thrill of the ride and the sense of adventure that came with it. Paulette recently returned from Mexico with her children. She loved hot destinations, sun and salted caesars. She especially cherished her last five years spent at Pemmican Lodge, where she created lasting relationships with the wonderful people around her. Paulette truly loved her home there, and it was a source of great comfort and joy in her later years.
Paulette was a gifted cook, known for her delicious homemade hot spaghetti sauce, cabbage rolls, perogies, and potato pancakes. She took great pleasure in cooking for her children, always filling their hearts and bellies with love and nourishment.
She is survived by her loving children: Pauline (Jamey) Takeda, Connie (Trent) Smith, and William Humphrey. Paulette will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Dakota (Jacqui) York, Richard and David Bene, Keenan (Joscelynn Adams) Takeda, Kira (Evan Wier) Takeda, Kourtni (Dalton) Resch, Kole (Austyn Arseneault) Takeda; and great-grandchildren Lilliana York and Braxtyn Resch. Paulette also survived by her siblings: Joseph (Dorothy) Dietl, twin brother Paul Dietl, Richard (Ingrid) Dietl, Robert Dietl, and sister Cathy Thompson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Jean Dietl, and her sisters Dianne Orosz and Mary Ress.
A private, intimate burial will be held on January 25, 2025, as we lay our Mom to rest alongside her Mom at Mountain View Cemetery.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pemmican Lodge for the care and support they provided Paulette during her time there. Paulette truly loved her home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Green Acres Foundation.
Paulette will be remembered for her loving spirit, adventurous heart, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. Her legacy will live on in the cherished memories of her family and friends.
