CORBETT, Eunice
Posted: March 11th, 2025 EUNICE (SHANKLAND) CORBETT Eunice passed away quietly at St. Therese Villa, Lethbridge, on Friday, March 7th, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born in Eston, Saskatchewan, on June 24, 1939, to Robert and Connie Shankland. In 1945 she moved with her family from Richlea SK to Druid SK. She received her schooling in Druid and Dodsland, SK, and took teacher’s training in Saskatoon.
Eunice taught in Arborfield SK and in Alberta at Rocky Mountain House and Pincher Creek. Finding teaching too stressful, she stepped away and found other fulfilling work in Lethbridge AB and at Sicamous and Enderby BC. While running the Alpiner Motel and Restaurant in Sicamous, she met and married Neil Corbett in 1979. After several years she gave up the motel and they moved to Enderby where she enjoyed working at the D & E Diner. Neil passed away in 2008 and in 2012 Eunice returned to Lethbridge where she could live closer to her brothers. She made her home at Pemmican Lodge for a few years and then at St. Therese Villa.
All through the years she enjoyed curling – and winning a number of championships. In her later years she loved to watch curling on TV. Crossword puzzles were a favourite pastime and she also did beautiful cross-stitch and petit-point pictures. Eunice and Neil spent many happy days camping, fishing and boating in the summer months. She will always be remembered for her sense of humour and her quick wit.
Eunice was predeceased by her husband Neil, her parents Robert and Connie Shankland, and her brother Mervin.
Eunice is survived by her brother Harvey (Ruth); sister-in-law Gerri Shankland; nephews Doug, Kevin, and Kurt Shankland and their families, and niece Wanda Barks and her family, as well as Neil’s children Karen and Neil and a brother-in-law Pat (Heather) and all their families.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Therese for their faithful care of Eunice these many years.
Cremation has taken place and at Eunice’s request there will be no funeral.
