She loved growing up in Montana and attended Manhattan Christian School. Shortly after graduation, November 12, 1965, she married the love of her life, Hank Molenaar. They established themselves on a farm near Nobleford where they had their four sons. In 1988, they moved to Lethbridge and in 1991, purchased the Kernels Popcorn store which they still own today. Hank and Helene enjoyed traveling, and spent 21 winters in Arizona. She had a strong faith which began in childhood when her father taught her to sing the Psalms. When prompted one time about her faith, she said, “My comfort is that I belong to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and when I close my eyes in death, I will open them in the arms of Jesus”
