LORNA MATTHEWS 1941 ~ 2025 It is with sad and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lorna Mary (nee Pasha) Matthews, on her 59th wedding Anniversary to her beloved husband, Bryan. After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, Lorna passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the age of 83 years.
Lorna was born in Harbour Grace Newfoundland on August 9, 1941, to Clara and Herb Pasha. She had 3 sisters: Joyce (d.), Pauline (d.), and Roslyn of Edson, Alberta, and 2 brothers Herb (d.), and Robert of Happy Valley Goose Bay, Labrador, Newfoundland.
Her first job was as a long-distance phone operator for Newfoundland Telephone in St. John. In 1963, she moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to live with her Aunt Jane and Uncle Len. That is when she started working for Zellers in The Bayers Road Shopping Center and met Bryan at a shopping center social. After that day, they were never separated. Bryan and Lorna were married in Fairview, Nova Scotia, a suburb of Halifax, on June 11, 1966.
On May 28, 1969, Bryan and Lorna moved to Bryan’s hometown of Lethbridge, Alberta where Bryan started work and Lorna got a transfer with Zellers. Lorna was a social butterfly and made countless friends that lasted a lifetime. After 9 years of marriage, their first daughter, Leah, was born on August 28, 1975, and then Sheena came along on January 25, 1977. Lorna was an excellent stay at home mom and raised 2 beautiful daughters.
Over the years, the family went on all kinds of camping trips to places like Waterton, Oregon, and Alaska. They also took plenty of fun vacations, from tropical cruises to exploring every province in Canada. After retiring, Bryan and Lorna started spending their winters where they enjoyed the warm weather and made lots of new friends.
Lorna’s greatest joy in life was her seven grandchildren – Sydney, Lexy, Kylie, Benson, Tysen, Devyn, and Taryn – and her four great-grandchildren: Lucas, Wyatt, Gavin, and Koen. She loved each of them with all of her heart.
Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorna’s honor to a charity of your choice.
