Bertha is survived by her children Vanessa (Colin), Danny, Heidi, Beth (Darryl); her grandchildren Jace, Cammie (Dax), Brady, Conrad, Katelyn (Zack), Kira (Iron); Jawon, Jalyn, Hayden; Rylie, Bryton, Ryder, Daneve; Great-grandchildren Brekken, Braylee, Elia May, Silas; her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Geraldine Wells, sister/niece Judy Fox, and her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Jason Weasel Fat, Granddaughter Mikayla Tay; parents Dick and Katie Wells; Brother, Luke Wells and Sister-In-Law Sarah Wells; Sisters Patricia and Jeanette Wells. Mom attended the St. Mary’s Indian Residential School. She would reminisce about the school activities, which were enjoyable times for her; she was also a member of the girls basketball team, joking about her position as benchwarmer. Mom continued her education at Medicine Hat College where she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her final endeavor brought her to Lac La Biche where she graduated from the Community Health Representative program from the Lac La Biche College. Mom cared for her community over many years in her career as a nurse and CHR. She cared for our elderly and young at the Blood Indian Hospital and as a nurse with the Victorian Order of Nurses in Lethbridge to the community in her roles in Community Health with the Blood Tribe Department of Health. Kiimataakii loved her community, her patients and her clients. She could tell you who was immunized, who should get immunized, who was having or had a baby and she drove through varying road and weather conditions to carry out her care. Mom was proud of her driving ability she’d say, “I got my Class 2 on my first try” she was also our bus driver during her maternity leave terms and had mad driving skills as a result. Over the years she was an avid hockey mom to Jason and Danny; we toured many arenas in our younger years and built lifelong relationships through hockey. She was a great supporter of her grandchildren’s activities and would attend a variety of events like hockey, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and concerts as her health allowed. The family of Bertha would like to thank Dr. Shey Eagle Bear, Kainai Continuing Care – Long Term Center, her Home Care Nurse Jody Shouting, the Cardston Hospital ER and Acute care nurses. We greatly appreciate all their care for our mother. A Wake Service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Blood Reserve on Monday January 12 from 6:00 – 10:00 pm. The Funeral service will also be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Tuesday, January 13 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Blood Reserve.
