STANLEY, John
Posted: February 14th, 2026 JOHN WILBERT STANLEY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Wilbert Stanley of Calgary, Alberta. John passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Rosedale Hospice. He was 89 years old.
John was born on November 1, 1936, in London, Ontario. After attending Agricultural College in Guelph, he moved to Alberta, where he spent most of his life in the Lethbridge area. John married Denise (Cote), with whom he shared 33 years of marriage until her passing in 1993. In 1994, he married Marjorie (Skelton), with whom he shared a loving and devoted partnership.
John will be deeply missed by his wife, Marjorie; his children, Stephen (Tessa) and Scott (Cheryl); and Marjorie’s children, Nyla (Corey) Free and Terik (Belinda DaCosta) Majid. Family was at the centre of John’s life, and he took immense joy in being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Jeremy (May), Larissa (Russell), Mathew, and Evan; and by his great granddaughter, Riley, who brought him some of his greatest joy. John will also be missed by Marjorie’s grandchildren, Ava, Mya, and Lenyn, who held a special place in his heart.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Silvera Spruce Commons, the Calgary Palliative Home Care Team, and Rosedale Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided throughout the past year. Their kindness made an immeasurable difference to John and to all who loved him.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, starting at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 1614 5 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB. Cremation was intrusted to Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services.
