Barbara Marie Hepfner (nee: Hilsendeger) passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the age of 102 years, beloved wife of the late Peter Hepfner. Barbara is the loving mother to her daughters, Catherine Dirk and Irene (Ben) Schneider all of Medicine Hat; one daughter-in-law, Victoria Hepfner of Medicine Hat; loving grandmother to eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Martha Schuster and sister-in-law, Margaret Hilsendeger as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Regina and Joseph Hilsendeger, her husband, Peter in 1975; one son, Joseph Hepfner; a son-in-law, Joe Dirk; granddaughter, Karen; two brothers, Johnny and Anton and one infant brother, Joseph; three sisters, Mary Elle, Eva Schafer and Elizabeth Folk. Barbara was born in Bison, South Dakota on September 18, 1910 and came to Canada in 1914. In 1928 she married Peter in a double wedding ceremony in the Krassman Church. Together they farmed in the Linacre, Saskatchewan area and in 1952 they moved to Leader. In 1993 she moved to Medicine Hat where she has resided since. Barbara was a loving, caring mother and grandmother, she was always there for her family when they needed her. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday evening from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. John Schuster celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
