Mrs. Anna Marie Steiert of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. John Steiert, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 at the age of 84 years. Anna leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Tony Steiert of Medicine Hat and his children, Natalie (Tom) Eisenhower, Curtis (Lisa) Steiert and their daughter, Lily, and Jillian (Landon) Ellis and their daughter, Deliah; and their mother, Joan Steiert; Ralph (Peggy) Steiert of Medicine Hat and their children, Laura Steiert, Coralee Steiert (Jory), Jeffrey Steiert; two daughters: Lorraine (Larry) Hartsook of Eston, Saskatchewan, and their children, Janine (Jason) Howes, Jeremy (Irina) Hartsook and their sons, Creo amd Rider; Rosie (Gerald) Pahl of Medicine Hat and her daughters, Stephanie Leismeister (Adrian), and Jena (Randy) Sinclair; Ann Flipsen’s children, David (Penny) Boisclair and their children, David Jr. (Kelly), Melissa, and Curtis; Michael (Shawna) Boisclair and their children, Madison and Matthew; and Brent Flipsen: and one sister-in-law, Waltraud (Rudi) and their daughter, Julianna (Matheis) of Germany. Besides her husband, John; Anna was predeceased by one daughter, Ann Flipsen; one son-in-law, Darvin Leismeister; and her parents, Florian and Auna Fix. Anna was born on August 5th, 1928 in Odessa, Ukraine. She married John Steiert on February 9th, 1948 and together they immigrated to Canada in 1949. John and Anna settled in Alsask, Saskatchewan, where they farmed until 1973 at which time they sold the farm and moved to Medicine Hat. It was here Anna helped John with his new career building homes in Medicine Hat, working side by side with him. They retired in 1990 and she and John enjoyed travelling in their motorhome and with their family. Music was a big part of Anna’s life; she and John instilled this in their children. Anna loved playing the accordion at home and at parties. Together they enjoyed going to the Moose to dance and listen to their children’s band, Steiert & Company. Anna enjoyed camping and gardening including their flower gardens. Another of her passions was being a homemaker, she loved cooking, baking – and she made the best Kuchen. Folowing John’s passing Anna, was diagnosed with ALS. She will be remembered for her humor and wit; she always had a joke to tell. Anna loved spending holidays with her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. The Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Saturday, January 19th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Matthew Emmelkamp, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Anna’s memory may be made to the ALS Society, Suite 250, 4723 – 1st Street SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2G 4Y8.
