EDGAR RATH

February 3, 1931 ~ February 23, 2013

It is with sadness that the family announce the passing of Edgar Rath, beloved husband to Betty Lynne Rath, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the age of 82 years.  Edgar was born in Medicine Hat to Michael and Pauline Rath and was raised in Tothill District, Elkwater.  Ethics of hard work were learned at a very young age which he carried through his life.  On November 26, 1966, Edgar married the love of his life, Betty Lynne Webster in Medicine Hat.  Prior to working for the City, Edgar worked with Nick Linden Construction for a number of years, then followed a 31 year career with the City of Medicine Hat in the Public Works Department where he worked towards the position of Supervisor which was truly a memorable time in his life.  Edgar’s strong but quiet nature often gained him the reputation of being funny but kind of heart.  In his past-time, he enjoyed camping, woodworking and gardening.  Most of all the enjoyment in his life were his children;  especially the day they got married and the birth of his grandchildren.  His memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of his wife, Betty Lynne;  children, Shelley (Colin) Stahl, their children, Carter & Spencer;  Louise (Wade) James, their children, Cassidy & Kyle;  Michael (Carmen) Rath, their children, Jake & Travis;  as well as his siblings, Edna Seitz, Nellie Seitz, Evelyne Koenig, Linda King, Melvin, Ben & Larry Rath and families;  mother-in-law, Evelyne Webster;  brothers-in-law, Wayne, Richard, Jerry & Lorne Webster; sisters-in-law, Joanne Munsch & Marlene Rath.  Edgar was predeceased by his parents, Michael & Pauline Rath;  brother, Alec Rath;  father-in-law, George Webster and granddaughter, Grace Rath.  Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to service time beginning at 1:00 p.m on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.  The Funeral Serivce will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Edgar’s name may be made directly to Palliative Care c/o Medicine Hat Health Foundation, 666 – 5th Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta.
