Addie was born in Wilcox, Saskatchewan on May 23rd, 1923 where she was raised and completed high school. Addie met her future husband, Allen Davis, in 1943. She attended the Regina School of Nursing graduating in 1946. It was Addies pioneering spirit and thirst for knowledge that led her to continue her education at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland; Jersey City Hospital in Jersey City, New York; and University of Minnesota Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota where she was concentrating on operating room procedures. Throughout this time, Addie and Allen managed to keep in touch even though their studies had them in different places in the United States and Canada. After Allen graduated from Veterinary Medicine in the spring of 1950, they were married on December 9th of that year in Regina, Saskatchewan. Allen was a veterinarian for the Federal Government which led them to live in Moose Jaw and Maple Creek before moving to Medicine Hat in 1954 where Allen practiced veterinary medicine and established the first actual veterinary clinic in the area in the late 1950s. Addie continued nursing at the Medicine Hat General Hospital. Due to her specialized knowledge of operating room design, she was appointed by the architects of the new 1957 Medicine Hat Municipal Hospital to design the operating rooms. For a number of years, Addie helped Allen run his veterinary practice, Medicine Hat Animal Clinic. In the early 1970s, she returned to nursing as a Public Health Nurse retiring after 18 years. Addie had a great passion for organization and volunteering. Although she had a busy work schedule and home life, she served as the secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary for the AVMA for a number of years, the President on the Board of the Medicine Hat YMCA, the President on the Board of the Medicine Hat Figure Skating Club; and helped found and administrate the first year summer figure skating school in Medicine Hat in the early 1970s. To round out her schedule, Addie was also a Mary Kay Consultant for a number of years. Addie and Allen travelled to various places around the world .Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States and Canada. With a group from the YMCA, Addie also made a trip to the Orient. Addie was an independent, strong woman who will always be remembered for her forward-thinking attitude, her no-nonsense approach to life, and her caring manner. Even as her health began to decline, Addie made the most of each day and embraced life. She will be missed by her family, grandchildren, and many friends.
