JEAN MUIR

Mrs. Margaret Jeannie (Jean) Muir, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the age of 92 years. Beloved wife of the late, Albert (Bert) Muir, much loved mother to, Dianne Carswell and Douglas (Barbara) Muir, both of Medicine Hat; two precious grandchildren, Laura Carswell of Vancouver and Daniel Muir of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews including, Neil and Bob Thomson and their families of Winnipeg and Pixie MacDonald of Abbotsford, B.C. Jean was born into the Thomson clan in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 13, 1921, to Archibald and Mary Thomson, an early Valentine present for her dad and big brother Robert Gordon Red Thomson. She married Albert Muir in August of 1941 and were stationed at several Air Force bases including Pat Bay on Vancouver Island until the end of the war. Both their daughter, Dianne and son, Douglas were born in Winnipeg. In the summer of 1948, the family moved to Medicine Hat. It was here that Jean was first employed with Saving Center Grocery on Aberdeen Street for many years and then worked at Aberdeen Pharmacy with Art Waller, continued there when the Drugstore was purchased by Sam Titcher, working there until her retirement about 1980. She was an avid reader and was well known for her knitting skills which included full babylayettes. Many folks in Medicine Hat wore the siwash sweaters she made over the years as well as the fancy knit scarves that she gave to friends, care givers and family members. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Bert in 1985; son-in-law, Barrie Carswell in 1997, her parents, her brother and 10 brothers and sisters-in-law. She lived her last few years as a resident of Riverview Care Centre. The family would like to thank the care givers who treated her like royalty. In honoring of her wishes, Jean will be reunited with Bert with a Graveside Service held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 beginning at 3:00 P.M. Those wishing to attend are invited to arrive at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel at 2:30 P.M. in order to process to Hillside Cemetery together.
