Posted: April 1st, 2013Mrs. Bernice June Schmidek of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ron Schmidek, passed away on Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at the age of 80 years. Bernices memory will be cherished by her children, Rod (Lucille) Schmidek, Tim Schmidek, both of Medicine Hat, Shelley (Frank) Halbert of Toronto; and her three grandchildren, Taron, Alex and Benjamin who will fondly remember her as Puggin. Bernice is also survived by her two sisters, Vi Krauss and Doris Potter, both of Medicine Hat. Bernice was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Ron Schmidek; her parents, John and Pauline Lukey; and her brother, Raymond. Bernice lived most of her life in Medicine Hat with a few years being spent in Regina when she and Ron were first married. She worked at SaskTel and then moved back to the Hat where she worked at Midland Doherty Ltd. and then Dean Witter Brokerage. Bernice loved long drives, camping, fishing and gardening and was always ready for a challenge or trying to solve a problem. Family and friends were Bernys delight. The family would like to thank all that cared for her during her last few months. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Bernices memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, 666 – 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6.
