Steven Vandenbroek was born on November 8th, 1936 and passed away on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with his family at his side. Steven was born in Holland and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1950. He worked at numerous places, the last being for the Provincial Government. Steven married the love of his life, Carol, in 1962. Steve and Carol travelled for a number of years, but in the latter years just enjoyed life in Medicine Hat. They had two children, Darrell (Darla) Vandenbroek and Kathy (Garry) LaFrentz; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Chris, Sharlyn and Keara Vandenbroek, Karla (Derek) Forrester, Kellie and Justin LaFrentz. Steven is also survived by three brothers and six sisters, Ed (Janny) Vandenbroek, John (Gerda) Vandenbroek, Herman (Terry) Vandenbroek, Jean (Sam) Van Wierengen, Gerda (Bill) Van Esveld, Bette (Harry) Kuntz, Anne (John) Dousett, Rose (Roy) Johnson, and Chris Heerschap; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Steven was predeceased by his mother and father; his mother and father-in-law; and two brothers-in-law, Joe and Richard Tuchscherer. Vigil Rites (prayers) will be said at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Thursday, April 4th, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Father Philip Le, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Stevens memory may be made to the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre, 666 – 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6, or to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, #124, 430 – 6th Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2S8.
