Allan Curtis Nelson of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013, at the age of 90 years, beloved husband of the late Anne Nelson. He leaves to cherish his memory his step-daughters and their families, Pat (Ron) Fox, Joan (Bob) Cruickshank and Brenda MacLean all of Medicine Hat; one brother, Harvey Nelson; three sisters-in-law, Merna Nelson, Lois Nelson and Shirley Nelson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lavina and Andrew Nelson; his first wife, Katherine; second wife, Annie; four brothers, Morley, Gordon, Lorne and Robert. Allan was born and raised in LaFleche, Saskatchewan. He served in the RCAF as a flying officer in Canada and the UK during WWII. Allan married Katherine Albrecht and together they farmed near LeFleche. They later sold the farm and retired to Medicine Hat. Following the passing of Katherine in 1986, Allan met Anne MacLean square dancing and they were married in Calgary in December 1988. He was a member of St. Johns Presbyterian Church, the Legion for 58 years, the Masonic Lodge and was very interested in current affairs. Allan established a scholarship at the Medicine Hat College to help children of farming families from Saskatchewan. The funeral service will be held at St. Johns Presbyterian Church (504 2nd Street SE) on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. Officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Robertson Memorial Branch #17 will conduct a poppy service for their departed comrade. Interment will take place in the Field of Honour at Hillside Cemetery. So sorry to hear of Allan’s passing. We were unable to attend the funeral (babysitting) but our thoughts were with you all. Allan was very fortunate to have all of you as his family, you were very good to him.
