1920 – WEBER – 2013
Posted: May 9th, 2013Emma Weber, nee Straub, passed away peacefully on May 6th, 2013 at the age of 93. She journeys now to be with her husband, John, who passed on May 22nd, 1992; her granddaughter, Lisa Wahl in September 1992; her brothers, Herbert in September 1945 and Leonard in July 1991.
Her parents, William and Caroline, predeceased her in 1975 and 1979 respectively. Emma leaves to cherish her memory one son, Gene (Linda) of Medicine Hat; two daughters, Diana (Dave) Patterson-Cowling of Victoria, BC and Arlene (Robert) Wahl of Parksville, BC; seven grandchildren; Chris Weber (Terra), Cori Weber, Mike (Kari) Weber, Nathan Debler, Pam Patterson (Jack Pattie), Kris Greffard (Francois), Loren Wahl, and Susan Biskup (John); and great-grandchildren Kierstyn Weber, Emily Weber, Jameson and Nolan Debler, Eli Greffard, Marshall, Hunter and Damek Biskup. She also leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Esther Reichert of Medicine Hat; two brothers, Harold Straub of Lacombe and Emil Straub of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Emma will also be fondly remembered by her good companion, Joyce Jones. Mom was born March 9th, 1920 in Hilda, Alberta. She grew up on the family farm, attending schools there until grade 8. Baseball was one of her favorite games and she loved playing back catcher. At age 14, she had to drop out of school to help her dad on the farm, doing all the work of a young farm hand. It gave her the strength of character she carried with her for her remaining years. She met John Weber in 1941 and they married in 1943 spending the rest of her years in Medicine Hat. Mom dedicated her life to family and her church. In particular she spent many summers as Camp Manager at the Pinecrest Bible Camp at Cypress Hills Park, where she was fondly referred to as “Sarge”, and remembered by the many young lives she impacted. Emma will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH on Friday from 12:30 to 1:25 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH, 606 – 7th Street SW, on Friday, May 10th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Bob Findley officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Hillside Cemetery with a lunch reception to follow in the Heritage Room at South Country Village across from the airport at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Emma’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
