It is with great sadness that the family of Rose Hieb, beloved wife of the late John Hieb, announces her passing on Tuesday, June 4th, 2013 at the age of 81 years. Rose passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home. Rose leaves to cherish her memory four children, Alf (Patti) of Medicine Hat, Betty (Wilf) Schafer of Richmound, Saskatchewan, Ralph of Vancouver, and Harvey of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Jason, Kevin (Nicole), Ryan (Brittney) Schafer and Krista (Clint) Wirth; four great- grandchildren, Marcus and Miley Hieb and Karley and Kendall Wirth; and one sister, Regina (Gerhardt) Eberhardt. Rose was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, Karl Exner and Lydia Bayer; her step-father, Oscar Bayer; and two sisters, Olga and Ericka. Rose was born on August 22nd, 1931 in Mytnica, Wholynia. She immigrated to Canada settling in Medicine Hat where she met John. They were married on June 26th, 1954 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. In the fall of 1958, Rose and John settled on the farm south of city returning to Medicine Hat in 1985. They continued to farm until 1990. Rose loved gardening, baking, canning, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed travelling and took trips to southern US, South America, and Germany. She was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and loved the company of her family, especially her grandchildren. Rose will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held in ST. PETER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 758 – 8th Street SE, on Friday, June 7th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Emil Krause officiating. A Private Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Rose’s memory may be made to the Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home, 156 – 3rd Street NE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1, or to the St. Peter Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 758 – 8th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1M5.
