1931 ~ WOLFER ~ 2013

Posted: June 10th, 2013

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of long time Medicine Hat resident Edward (Eddie) Wolfer on June 6th, 2013 following complications from a fall. Papa Ed, as he was affectionately known, was born on December 1st 1931 in Burstall before moving with the family to Medicine Hat. Ed is survived by his children Cindy Vetter and Cheryl Wolfer (Dallas). His grandchildren Renee (Joel) Funk and KaylaVetter, and his beloved great grandchildren Madelyn, Nikolai and Josie Funk. He especially leaves to cherish his memory his best friend Eileen.
Ed worked all his life in construction, together with his father, and brother LeRoy they created Little Chiefs Construction. Their great workmanship can still be seen throughout the city in houses apartments and Churches. After LeRoy moved away, Ed continued to run the business with his various helpers including, Ambrose Gutfriend, Herb Burkhart, and Jake Eichele. The last number of working years were mostly small insurance and odd jobs that Ed and his good friend Richard Hammel would do. (Although some of us question how much work was actually done)
Dad Spent years playing a variety of sports including softball and bowling, but his greatest passion was golf. Anywhere, anytime. Together with Frank Friesen, Henry Klaudt, and Herf Telke, and in later years Ron Reimer. They could also be seen most weekdays on the links at MHGC. Many rounds of golf were fought there, as there was this desire for all to be number 1. Together with their wives, they would take golf and shopping trips to Spokane doing this for many years. I found out recently this was Dads favorite place to golf. Ed and Eileen loved travelling to Hawaii, and the last number of years to Arizona to escape the winter. He also went on a ton of golf holidays to some memorable places including Hawaii, St. Thomas, St. George Utah, Kananaskis, with a wide variety of family and friends. After his stroke in 2011 his golf ended and a piece of him died, never having obtained the elusive hole in one. Prior to his fall, Ed and Eileen could be found most mornings at local McDonalds visiting with many friends enjoying coffee until lunch time.
Ed, will be joining in heaven his parents Charlie and Anna and his three sisters, Sarah Neibauer, Matilda Diede, and Alvinia Harsch and his two brothers John Wolfer, and LeRoy Wolfer and his close friends Frank and Ruth Friesen.
The funeral service will be held in TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH, 606 – 7th Street SW, Medicine Hat, AB, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Marcel Mitchell officiating. Where Ed was a lifetime member. Interment will take place prior to the funeral for anyone wishing to join us at Hillside Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. We will be meeting at the cemetery gates at 12:45 P.M.
