Bertha Gehring Meier of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Andy Gehring and Al Meier. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Eleanor (Gordon) Frank of Calgary, Joanne (Nick) Wiest of Redcliff, Ken (Karen) Gehring of Kelowna, and Stan Gehring of St. Albert; ten grandchildren, Dean (Joanne) Frank, Corrine (Tony) Barile, Trent (Nicole) Wiest, Denise (Peter) Lordal, Kimberley Gehring, David Gehring, Megan Gehring, Andrew Gehring, Parker Gehring and Joshua Gehring; five great grandchildren, Madison Barile, Taylor Barile, Mariah Lordal, Jackson Lordal and Alex (Nick) Hill; two great great grandchildren, London Hill and Lily Hill; two brothers-in-law, Len (Frieda) Gehring, Emil (Mary) Gehring; one sister-in-law, Donna Gehring; one step-daughter, Donna Rae and her family as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Sarah and William Goehring; her first husband, Andy Gehring in 1984 and her second husband, Al Meier in 2005; three brothers, Eddy Goehring in World War II, John (Lily) Goehring and Harold (Cleo) Goehring; one sister, Martha (Reinhold) Treiber; one sister-in-law, Amanda (Reinhold) Bayer; three brothers-in-law, Alvin Gehring, Art Gehring and John (Helen) Gehring. Bertha was born on July 28, 1920 in Kincord, Saskatchewan and was raised in Schuler. She married Andy Gehring on September 8, 1940. Together they lived on the farm and started their family. They later moved to Schuler where Andy ran the hardware store and the rest of the children were born. In 1954 they moved to Medicine Hat where Andrew worked at Blacks Hardware and Bertha raised the family. Andrew passed away in 1984. In 1991 Bertha married Al Meier and she enjoyed dancing at the Veiner Centre. She moved to Chinook Village 11 years ago and most recently to South Country Village. Bertha was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bertha was an excellent cook, especially her German dishes. She had an strong faith, was very active in her church and she loved travelling especially cruising. The funeral service will be held in the Victory Lutheran Church (2793 Southview Drive SE) on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Barrett Scheske officiating.
