Posted: July 23rd, 2013Margaret Louise Black of Slave Lake, formerly of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late James Reginald “Reg” Black, passed away on Monday, July 8th, 2013 at the age of 92 years.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her children, Bob (Dixie) of Maple Creek, Graham (Pearl) of Medicine Hat, and Jane (Arnie) Dreger of Widewater, Alberta; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Elsie Breakell; five brothers and two sisters. Margaret was born on March 12th, 1921 in Medicine Hat where she was raised and educated. On January 24th, 1942, she married Reginald Black and they lived in Medicine Hat until 1979 raising their family and being active community members. While in Medicine Hat, they owned “Black Hardware Ltd” and “Black’s Sports Centre”. Margaret and Reg retired to Sidney, BC in 1979. After Reg’s passing, Margaret returned to Medicine Hat and for the last few years lived in Slave Lake, Alberta to be close to her daughter and her family. A Private Graveside Service was held at HILLSIDE CEMETERY, 10th Avenue & Gershaw Drive SW, with Reverend Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. Memorial gifts in Margaret’s memory may be made to the CNIB, 102, 520 – 2nd Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0C6.
