1944 ~ 2013
Mr. Gordon Larry Bessant, beloved husband of Mrs. Diana Bessant, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the age of 69 years. Larry was born on June 9, 1944 in Kingston, Ontario, a son to proud parents, Gordon and Velva Bessant. As a young boy, the family moved to the family farm in the Wawanesa, Manitoba area. He attended a one room country school called Lilly Hill School. Larry met Diana and they were married on his birth date, June 9, 1973 in Elkhorn, Manitoba. He worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in various locations throughout Manitoba and Alberta under his Interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanics Ticket. He enjoyed tinkering on engines and liked motorcycles, woodworking, photography and all that nature had to offer – especially owls or as he affectionately referred to them as hooters. He also enjoyed sports and rooted for the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Blue Jays. He was kind-hearted, caring and a distinguished family man with rapier wit. Larry was always fun to be around whether it be camping with his family or attending family reunions so he could line up all of his female family for hugs, he was well liked and admired and will be deeply missed. Larry will be remembered by his wife Diana; children, Chris (Julie) and Jobina (Steve); grandchildren, Victoria, Tristin, Makendra, Colton and Nayla; a brother, Rodney (Carol); brother-in-law, Larry (Betty); sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Wayne), Cindy and Ellen (Wes); mother-in-law, Dodie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Velva Bessant and his father-in-law, Rod.
